'The Gendarme' misprint

There are tiny ink marks on the white paper seen in photos 2, 3 and 4 and the legs are a little bit misaligned on the left side. I also used a little too much black ink. None of these faults are very noticeable.

A reduction relief print of a Gendarme Beetle or Firebug, as it is more commonly known. I have seen these pretty little bugs huddled together in groups in France during the summer and this print was made for the Pressing Matters Black and Red print challenge. The red ink has a beautiful luminescence that I've tried to capture in the photographs. It was hand printed in three colours including khaki, red and black oil-based inks on Zerkhall paper.
